Meet Dr. Katerina Pavenski!
Dr. Katerina Pavenski is a clinical hematologist, Head of the Division of Transfusion Medicine, and medical director of Therapeutic Apheresis and Patient Blood Management at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto. She obtained her B.Sc. at the University of Manitoba (1997) and completed her Doctor of Medicine degree (2001), residencies in Internal Medicine (2004), and Adult Clinical Hematology requirements (2006) at the University of Toronto. She also completed residency in Transfusion Medicine at the McMaster University, Hamilton (2008).
After joining St. Michael’s Hospital in 2009, Dr. Pavenski became an associate professor in the Department of Pathobiology and Laboratory Medicine and is cross-appointed to the Department of Medicine at the University of Toronto. Her research interests include clinical transfusion medicine, the management of complex/massive bleeding, patient blood management, therapeutic apheresis, and TTP/cm-HUS. She is a member of the Ontario Blood Advisory Committee, National Advisory Committee on Blood and Blood Products, ISBT Clinical Transfusion Working Party and is the Chair of the Topics Committee of the ICTMG (International Collaboration for Transfusion Medicine Guidelines). She authored over 70 peer –reviewed publications and delivered multiple invited lectures at national and international events.
